Improving the First-Time SOC Experience

McKonly & Asbury’s October webinar entitled, “Improving the First-Time SOC Experience” took place on Thursday, October 31, 2019. The webinar was hosted by Michael Hoffner, Partner and Leader of McKonly & Asbury’s Systems and Organization Controls (SOC) practice, and Josh Bantz, Senior Manager and key team member in the firm’s SOC practice.

System and Organization Controls (SOC) engagements can be straight forward and efficient, if a service organization is adequately prepared. Unfortunately, it is very easy to ‘kick the can down the road’ and wait until a customer demands a SOC report as a condition of doing business before actually getting serious about it. It’s these engagements that can be the most painful, as they force both the organization and the accounting firm to move quickly through a complex process. In this webinar, we reviewed our recommendations on actions that management can take NOW to simplify the process when the need for a SOC can no longer be deferred. We covered thoughts around preparing for both SOC 1 and SOC 2 engagements, and gave some thoughts on how early preparation for a SOC engagement can also add value to the organization.

During this webinar, attendees learned:

  • Practical recommendations on how a service organization can prepare for a SOC 1 or SOC 2 engagement.
  • Examples of how adequate preparation can make the difference between an effective, efficient SOC engagement and a long, drawn out process.
  • An overview of key focus areas to remember in order to ensure that the effort is comprehensive.

This free, one hour-long webinar took place on Thursday, October 31st at 2:00 p.m. EST. One “A&A” CPE credit was available for this webinar. The level for this CPE was intermediate. This program was a live webinar which offered you the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the presenters.
