Collaborate 2019 Conference

McKonly & Asbury’s seventh annual Collaborate Conference was held on November 7, 2019 with over 175 attendees gathered at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey in Harrisburg, PA. This conference featured a variety of topics and speakers, including general sessions and breakout sessions that left attendees with information on what’s trending in the business community and how to apply these best practices to their business.
This year’s keynote was delivered by Eric Maddox, Lead Interrogator in the Saddam Hussein Capture. Eric’s keynote presentation – Trust Through Empathy Based Listening – shared the psychology of influence and how he believes it can be created in any environment. His presentation sparked conversation among the attendees on how they can utilize this philosophy within their own business culture. Eric’s interaction with conference participants added an extra bonus for those in attendance.
Conference attendees had the opportunity to listen to dynamic general sessions focused on current issues, including an update on current market conditions and economic outlook from Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management; a sobering discussion on the impact of medical marijuana and the workplace from McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC; and updates on welfare and retirement benefits in 2019 from McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC.
The conference continued with top-of-mind breakout sessions focused on the following areas: business, technical and non-profit.
Business Topics included a session on Accounting Standards Leases from simpLEASE Accounting and a session on Health Savings Accounts – Common Employer Questions with Conrad Siegel.
Technical Topics included a session on Powerful Tax Planning Opportunities Using Trusts from Bridgeford Trust Company as well as Tax Reform – Now What? from McKonly & Asbury.
Non-Profit topics included a session on Navigating the Constant Change of Financial Reporting Requirements and the Impact to Non-Profit Organizations with McKonly & Asbury along with the Top Ten Challenges of Implementing Standards for Excellence for the Non-Profit Sector from McKonly & Asbury and the Pennsylvania Association of Non-Profit Organizations.
The day concluded with an enlightening presentation on Artificial Intelligence: Preparing People for the Human-Machine Partnerships of the Future with Dale Carnegie. The day offered breakfast, lunch, and a reception as well as 6.75 Continuing Professional Education Hours and 6 Continuing Legal Education Credits.
